The first day at a new job is hard enough without having to worry about what you are going to wear. Apart from your interview, your first day on the job is your chance to make a great first impression, not only on your boss, but also on your new co-workers. Believe it or not, your appearance plays a big part in making that first impression a good one. I’ve come up with four looks for you to use as guidelines when trying to put together your perfect look for your first day on the job!
Go Classic with all black: Yves Saint Laurent said, “I love black because it affirms, designs, and styles. A woman in a black dress is a pencil stroke.” One of the greatest things about black is that you can wear it at any age, with any body type, and on almost every occasion. Black never goes out of style and is always a chic and elegant choice. For this particular look I paired a tied black sweater with a fitted black skirt and some black booties. If you wanted to, you could take things a step further and add a string of pearls and a bold red lip!
Pair Jewel Tones and a Print.:Another easy and elegant look to pull together is to choose one of your favorite solid jewel tones (we chose emerald) as the foundation piece for your look and to layer it with a little bit of your favorite pattern or print. Choosing a solid tone allows you to play around with the cut and style of the dress and gives you some extra freedom when you are adding your print pieces. Finish it off with your favorite pair of booties or flats and you are good to go!
Casual and Chic.: Sometimes simplicity is best! Certain work environments may be a bit more laid back, making a more casual look acceptable. A boot-cut jean and a nice button-down are perfect go-to pieces when keeping it both casual and work appropriate. For this look I added a little chic-ness by pairing it with some fun flats and a bold statement necklace. It’s best to keep the foundation of the outfit simple and then dress it up with some accessories!
Pair Pattern and Color: If done right, pairing a bright color with a pattern can create a fun and elegant assemble for your first day on the job. A key thing to remember when putting together a look like this is that you don’t want to pair a bold color with an obnoxious pattern. When choosing your pieces decide whether you want the main focus to be on the pattern or the color and then from there find something that will compliment it. For my look I paired a bright pink skirt with a heathered grey polka dot sweater and some leopard flats for a little extra fun.
Take some inspiration from these looks and make them your own and you will be on your way to being the chic new girl at the office!
